Damscray is the moniker of young and gifted Russian musician and experimental music producer Albert Khasanov from Orenburg. His distinctive style is the enormous blend of seemingly incompatible samples and somber tunes with a hard electro breakbeat and strong bass parties merging into a dark solid atmospheric sound that can be linked with trip-hop, downtempo, idm and its subgenres. At the age of 12 Damscray began producing music using the samples from different sources that aren’t readily identifiable, such as rare jazz music and art-house movies doing his trick through the usage of sound editing software at his old PC. Being a big fan of Amon Tobin, Sixtoo and Ennio Morricone, Albert acknowledged their influence and tried to separate his own unlike style. The result came in November 2008 with an Everything Is Ok by [a=SCLWN], the indie experimental hip-hop collaboration between Damscray and his two friends, ilz (piano) and sclwn (vocals) that was produced by Albert and his first solo EP, Horseboy, that was released in January 2009 on [l=Hool-A-Hop Records].
